ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN VOCABULARY ACQUISITION: NEW APPROACHES FOR EFL LEARNERS

Abstract

The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies has significantly transformed the process of foreign language learning, particularly vocabulary acquisition among learners of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Vocabulary competence is considered one of the most essential components of communicative language proficiency because learners’ ability to understand and produce language largely depends on lexical knowledge. This study investigates the role of Artificial Intelligence in vocabulary acquisition and explores new AI-based approaches that support EFL learners in developing lexical competence. The article examines intelligent technologies such as Natural Language Processing, adaptive learning systems, AI-powered chatbots, gamified applications, speech recognition tools, and personalized vocabulary platforms. Furthermore, AI systems provide immediate feedback, adaptive repetition, personalized recommendations, and interactive communication opportunities that facilitate vocabulary development. The study concludes that Artificial Intelligence can substantially improve vocabulary acquisition among EFL learners when integrated responsibly into pedagogical practice and learner-centered educational strategies.
