In the modern global economy, science and research (R&D) has become one of the central ideas of innovation. As a result of systematic growth over the past two decades, R&D spending worldwide has grown from approximately USD 1 trillion to USD 2.75 trillion in real terms. This trend reflects not only a scientific-expansive direction, but also a change in the global economic structure, namely the transition to an R&D-intensive economy.
