Abstract

Terminology constitutes one of the most systematic and intellectually structured components of language, reflecting the conceptual organization of knowledge within a given scientific, professional, or social domain. As languages evolve in response to scientific progress, technological innovation, and cultural interaction, terminological systems expand and undergo continuous restructuring. This thesis examines the terminology and the system of terms in the English and Uzbek languages from a comparative and functional perspective. The study aims to analyze how terminological units are formed, structured, systematized, and function within each language, as well as how cross-linguistic differences influence translation and conceptual equivalence. English and Uzbek represent typologically distinct language systems English being predominantly analytic and Uzbek agglutinative. These typological differences significantly affect the mechanisms of term formation, morphological adaptation, semantic extension, and standardization. The research explores key aspects of terminological theory, including the distinction between common vocabulary and terms, principles of terminological systematization, semantic precision, and the role of extralinguistic factors in term development. Special attention is given to borrowing, calquing, and hybrid term formation, which play a crucial role in the modernization of Uzbek terminology under the influence of English as a global lingua franca.
