English idioms containing foreign words, such as faux pas, déjà vu, persona non grata, and modus operandi, are prevalent in academic, literary, and journalistic texts and often convey cultural, stylistic, and pragmatic nuances that pose challenges in translation. Translating these idioms into Uzbek requires careful consideration of semantic meaning, cultural specificity, and stylistic register. This study examines the main types of foreign-word idioms in English, the challenges they present for Uzbek translators, and the strategies commonly employed to address these challenges, including borrowing, transliteration, calque formation, descriptive paraphrase, and cultural substitution. Analysis of contemporary English texts and published Uzbek translations reveals that successful translation is context-dependent and requires balancing fidelity, comprehensibility, and stylistic effect. The study highlights the importance of intercultural competence and adaptive translation strategies to maintain both meaning and communicative impact in the target language.
