LINGUISTIC TERMINOLOGY OF GENDER STUDIES

Abstract

This article examines the development, usage, and conceptual significance of linguistic terminology in contemporary gender studies. As gender has increasingly become a focus across sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, and cultural theory, the terminology used to discuss gendered identities, practices, and ideologies has expanded and diversified. This study explores foundational and emerging terms including “gender performance,” “gendered discourse,” “markedness,” “intersectionality,” and “queer linguistics” and analyzes how these terms shape scholarly debates and methodological approaches.
