Abstract

This article examines the main methodological approaches used in the analysis of demographic processes. Demographic processes include fertility, mortality, migration, population growth, age-sex structure, urbanization, family transformation, and population ageing. Their analysis requires a combination of statistical, comparative, historical, spatial, cohort-based, and forecasting methods. The article emphasizes that demographic research cannot be limited to the mechanical description of population numbers; it must reveal the internal logic of population change, the relationship between demographic indicators and social conditions, and the long-term consequences of demographic dynamics for economic and social development. Special attention is given to data sources, demographic coefficients, cohort and period analysis, life tables, standardization, demographic projections, and interdisciplinary interpretation.
