NEUROLINGUISTICS IN THE SYSTEM OF LINGUISTIC SCIENCES: ITS ROLE AND SCIENTIFIC STANDING
Abstract
This paper considers where neurolinguistics belongs among the linguistic disciplines, addressing the way the field took shape, the object and subject it sets out to study, and the contribution it makes to present-day linguistic scholarship. Particular attention is given to the points at which neurolinguistics intersects with psycholinguistics, cognitive linguistics, the neurosciences, and pedagogy. By examining the mechanisms through which language is tied to the workings of the brain, the discussion offers a scientific basis for defining this field's standing within linguistics.
