Functional Semantic Field (FSF) theory occupies an important place in modern linguistics, particularly within semantic studies that focus on meaning as a central aspect of language. In recent decades, linguists have increasingly emphasized the need to examine language not only as a structural system but also as a functional and meaning-oriented phenomenon. FSF theory reflects this shift by offering a framework in which linguistic units are analyzed according to their shared semantic features and communicative functions. Rather than treating words, grammatical forms, and syntactic constructions as isolated elements, this approach views them as interconnected components of a broader semantic system.
