Résumé

The representation of women in literature has long been a subject of scholarly interest within the fields of literary studies, cultural studies, and gender studies. Literary texts not only reflect social realities but also participate in shaping cultural perceptions of gender roles, identities, and expectations. In both Russian and English literary traditions, the image of women has undergone significant transformations influenced by historical developments, cultural ideologies, and changing social norms. From passive and morally idealized figures in classical narratives to complex and independent characters in modern literature, the literary portrayal of women reveals much about the evolving understanding of gender in society.
