As artificial intelligence is becoming more widely used in English language teaching, questions about how it should be applied in the learning process are gaining increasing importance. In this article, I focus on the pedagogical conditions that support the development of students’ linguo-cognitive competence in AI-assisted English language teaching. I aim to explain why the use of artificial intelligence alone is not sufficient and why clear pedagogical guidance is necessary for meaningful learning outcomes
