Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping language education globally, with significant implications for English for Specific Purposes (ESP) instruction. This article explores how AI technologies are supporting the development of speaking skills among psychology students, an ESP learner group with unique academic and professional language needs. Beyond linguistic proficiency, the interplay between AI assisted practice and learners’ psychological engagement—confidence, autonomy and emotional well being—is examined. Empirical evidence suggests that AI tools can increase learner motivation, provide real time feedback, and offer personalized simulation environments that significantly enhance oral communication skills. However, ethical considerations, technological limitations, and the necessity for pedagogically coherent integration remain critical challenges. This research contributes to advancing AI enhanced ESP pedagogy by synthesizing recent studies and proposing practical strategies for educators.
