RISK FACTORS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THYROID GLAND PATHOLOGIES IN WOMEN WITH METABOLIC SYNDROME

Abstract

In recent years, the occurrence of metabolic syndrome (MS) and thyroid gland (TG) diseases as a comorbid condition has become one of the pressing issues in global medicine. Although in clinical practice MS is primarily associated with cardiovascular risk and the etiology of type 2 diabetes mellitus, its effect on thyroid status has not been sufficiently studied. Pathogenetically, insulin resistance (IR) leads to compensatory hyperinsulinemia. An increase in the level of insulin and insulin-like growth factors (IGF-1) in blood serum enhances the proliferative processes of thyrocytes, laying the foundation for the development of goiter and nodular changes.
