Abstract

Fire has long held a central place in human culture as both a practical necessity and a powerful symbolic sign. In Uzbek traditions, fire is closely associated with purification, protection, and renewal. Fire is also present in household rituals, where it symbolizes family unity and divine blessing. Beyond Uzbekistan, fire carries diverse cultural meanings across the world. In Zoroastrianism, it represents truth and the eternal spirit; in Hindu traditions, the sacred fire (Agni) mediates between humans and gods during rituals; while in ancient Greek culture, the Olympic flame embodies unity and continuity. This article explores the role of fire as a cultural sign, comparing its symbolic functions in Uzbek heritage with its broader expressions in world traditions
