Abstract

IMPROVEMENT OF WORKING SURFACES OF MILL DRUMS AND PUMP IMPELLERS BY THERMAL TREATMENT

This study addresses the critical issue of wear degradation in mill drums and pump impellers operating under abrasive and impact loading conditions. Advanced thermal treatment techniques, including quenching, tempering, induction surface hardening, and nitriding, were systematically investigated to enhance surface hardness and wear resistance. Experimental results demonstrate that optimized thermal treatments can reduce wear intensity by up to three times while significantly extending component service life. These findings highlight the industrial applicability of thermal treatment as an efficient and cost-effective approach for improving operational reliability.
