"DIDACTIC OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEACHING ENGLISH TO CHILDREN AGED 5-6"
DOI:
https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18796950Abstract
The article discusses the didactic possibilities of teaching English to preschool children (5-6 years old), taking into account their psychological and pedagogical characteristics. The age characteristics of this period are analyzed, contributing to the successful formation of elementary foreign language communicative competence. Special attention is paid to gaming technologies, a communicative approach, the use of visual aids and the creation of an emotionally favorable educational environment. The paper reveals the theoretical positions of L. Vygotsky on the zone of immediate development, the ideas of J.Piaget on visual-imaginative thinking of preschoolers, the concept of sensitive periods by M. Montessori, as well as the theory of "clear entry" by S. Krashen. The article substantiates the position that early learning of a foreign language is pedagogically appropriate, subject to compliance with the principles of naturalness, accessibility and systematicity. It is concluded that learning English at the age of 5-6 years contributes to the development of speech, memory, attention, imagination and the formation of positive motivation for further study of a foreign language.
