Abstract

This article explores the theoretical and methodological foundations of improving students’ discursive competence in the context of foreign language education. Discursive competence is considered a key component of communicative competence, reflecting learners’ ability to produce coherent, cohesive, and contextually appropriate discourse. The study analyzes major linguistic, psycholinguistic, and pedagogical theories underlying discursive competence development and examines methodological approaches applied in modern language teaching. The findings highlight the significance of competence-based, communicative, and learner-centered approaches in fostering students’ discursive skills and provide a conceptual framework for further methodological implementation.
