This article analyzes the semantic content of linguistic units denoting the names of the animal world, as well as their national-cultural and linguistic features. It provides a review of scientific research on the range of meanings, symbolic interpretations, metaphorical and phraseological uses of animal names in different languages. The article also highlights the semantic layers of animal names related to human cognition, folklore, mythology, and the worldview of a nation. Based on the analysis of various studies, conclusions are drawn about the cross-cultural interpretations of animal-related vocabulary and its semantic differentiation..
