Abstract

Adult hippocampal neurogenesis (AHN) is a dynamic process influenced by various environmental and behavioral factors. This review synthesizes current evidence regarding the role of physical activity as a primary modulator of brain plasticity. Specifically, we examine the upregulation of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), the activation of the IGF-1 and VEGF signaling pathways, and the resulting structural adaptations in the dentate gyrus. The clinical implications for counteracting age-related cognitive decline and enhancing executive functions are discussed. This paper provides a framework for integrating physical exercise into neuro-rehabilitative protocols..
