ABOUT WORD FORMATION

Abstract

This article analyzes the concept of the morpheme and its role in word formation from a linguistic perspective. It explains the essence of word formation, its dual interpretation in linguistics, and its close relationship with morphemics. The main methods of word formation in the Uzbek language—affixation, phonetic, semantic, compositional, and abbreviation methods—are described with relevant examples. The study also highlights the connection of word formation with lexicology, morphology, phonetics, and syntax, and justifies its importance in the development of language.
