Abstract

The microstructure of a specialised dictionary determines how information related to an individual lemma is selected, ordered and presented within a dictionary article. This study examines the principles of dictionary microstructure presented in Manual of Specialised Lexicography edited by Henning Bergenholtz and Sven Tarp and applies them to the development of an Uzbek–English electronic dictionary of horticultural terms. The theoretical analysis is based primarily on Section 10.4, “Microstructure” (pp. 200–210), authored by Sandro Nielsen. Descriptive, analytical, comparative and terminographic methods are employed to identify the principal information fields of specialised dictionary articles and determine their relevance to bilingual horticultural lexicography. The analysis shows that a standardised article schema is essential for ensuring consistency among dictionary entries. Particular importance is attached to the systematic placement of grammatical information, pronunciation, equivalents, encyclopedic definitions, examples, collocations, synonyms and cross-references. In bilingual specialised dictionaries, equivalent selection and the relationship between linguistic and encyclopedic information require particular attention. Based on these principles, the study proposes a structured microstructural model for an Uzbek–English electronic horticultural dictionary in which each lemma is represented through a stable sequence of linguistic, terminological, semantic, contextual and domain-specific information fields. The proposed model combines lexicographic consistency with user-oriented accessibility and is suitable for the representation of information-rich horticultural terminology in an electronic environment.
